Description

The game was made during the 2024 Finnish Game Jam-event weekend on 26.1. - 28.1.

Plot

Our character, a cat or a dog, will adventure his way to the crown while facing various obstacles and challenges. Along the way, the character finds different foods that give it different effects. There are also debilitating effects on the way, which our hero must avoid if he wants to be the ruler of the kingdom.

Gameplay

The game is a 2D platformer. The Character is moved by clicking on the arrows. The Character is able to move left or right and jump. Some objects in the game give the character special effects, such as increased speed or size, which affect the gameplay. Some effects may even be harmful to the character. The goal of the game is to pass each level by making your way to the golden crown at the end of each level.

The game is intended to be simple and easy to understand and very FUN TO PLAY. The WAU-effect of our game comes from its unique personality, which is evident from the bright colors, funny sounds and the cute characters of the game.

Demonstration and Tools

To make our game, we used many different tools, such as Solar2D game engine, Inkscape for drawing characters and objects, Visual Studio Code as a code-editor and GitHub for version control and sharing the source code among team members.

Below are some screenshots of our game:

Results and Reflection

We created functional elements and basic game blocks that helped put the game together. During the weekend however, we only managed to create a short demo, but in the future the game can be easily expanded with these basic elements.

We solved many individual problems, such as a playing field that extends beyond the screen, working physics, a selectable game character, and various effect items that affect the character in different ways. Since each member was given different problems to solve and game elements to develop, we also learned how to combine these elements together into a complete game.

We are satisfied with the result we achieved during the weekend and we think that it was productive and we were able to learn from the experience.

Future of the game

Our game will very likely remain in our group's GitHub file in the future, as our group does not really intend to further develop our game.

If the group had the intention of further developing our game, then the plan would be to first add content to the game such as new levels and characters. The group would also add more narrative content, improve the gameplay and above all make the game more fun.

It is possible for the members of our group to develop the game independently by adding content to it, for example in the form of new characters, levels, objects and effects.
